The Walks
We have British walking tours every week March through October throughout
Scotland, graded for different levels of activity. Walking vacation packages in
Wales, and travel packages to England. We have two types: Escorted (guided) and
self-led. They are all Country House Based, staying at
one hotel for the whole length of time . All holidays have been designed by
WALKERS FOR WALKERS. Our group walking tours of Scotland are guided by
experienced leaders.
Locations: Choose from 2 glorious locations
in Scotland : Western Highlands, Isle of Arran. Challenging hikes
Accommodation
We have carefully selected a mixture of comfortable 3/4/5 star country
house/hotel accommodation perfect for those which are more comfortable with
private bath. All have good boot and drying room facilities, tea and coffee
makers and dining room service. Our daily social program includes an informal
house party atmosphere, great for making new friends. You spend your whole stay
in one property. The settings are varied, illustrating the surrounding beauty
and diversity of the countryside.
Country House Based: You stay at one country
house hotel for your entire stay. Most 1 week tours offer walks on 5 days
during the week, departing at 9:30AM and spending about 5-7 hours walking,
including stops. Wednesday is a free day, allowing you to do what you want, or
to rest. The walks are categorized from short to long or from low to high level
terrain, so there is something to suit every taste on each departure. The
length of each days' walks depends on the level chosen, but can range from 2-12
miles or more. Our most popular British guided walking holidays offer you a
choice of up to three lengths of walks each day, we call them Classic Walking
Holidays. An easier walk and harder walk and one in between, perfect for those
holidaying together with different walking tastes. You can walk with one party
level one day, and switch to another the next - it's entirely up to you.You
don't have to stick to the same level throughout the week. You need not walk
every day, if you don't want to.
| Did you know? Despite Big Ben's usual reliability, it slowed down on
New Year's Eve in 1962 due to heavy snow. This caused it to chime in the new
year 10 minutes late. |
Short 3/4 day walks, 1 or 2 week walks
We have short walks, too, of 3 or 4 days, from March-October, and some other
dates, and longer walks of 1 or 2 weeks, walks for singles, families, and
adventurous walks. This is a brief summary of what we offer. If you do not see
here exactly what you want, please ask - we more than likely have it!
The Areas
We have walking tours in all areas of Britain. You can combine a week in
Scotland with a week in England's Lake District, the
Cotswolds, or just take a week's walk in Wales.
Tours begin and end on Saturdays, allowing for easy combination of tours.
Families, Couples, Singles, Groups
Parents, toddlers, teenagers - there is something for everyone on our family
walks. We have walks for those just aged 20-35, walks with a theme, gentle
walking holidays. Single guests are welcome although there will be a supplement
charged (unless a sharing arrangement can be made prior to departure.)
Discounts for groups are available, too. The single supplement is $40 per
person per night, all location.
| Munro Bagging (named after the gentleman who identified these
peaks) The mountains around Glen Coe contain many fine munros, or summits over
3,000ft, far more than we can include in our Classic Walking programme. On this
holiday we set out to 'bag' some of the others; perhaps the Ben Starav
Horseshoe; Stob Gabhar; and Sgor na h-Ulaidh. Whether you are attempting to
tick off all 284 Munros, or just want a week of superb mountain walks, a
memorable and challenging week is assured. 8 to 10 miles with up to 4,800ft of
ascent. Ask for details. |
Walking in a group The atmosphere is
relaxed and friendly. There is normally a good mix of ages, of new clients and
'regulars' from Britain and overseas, and of couples, friends and people
travelling alone. All our walks leaders are experienced, mostly enthusiasts who
provide thoughtful, safe and informative leadership at all times.
Meals: After a full breakfast we generally
start the day at 9.30am taking a self-select picnic lunch and returning to the
Country House hotel between 5.00pm and 6.30pm, in time for a relaxed
three-course evening meal.
What to Bring:
Bring worn-in walking boots Waterproof jacket (with hood) Waterproof over
trousers Spare sweaters or fleece (several thin layers are better than one
thick layer) Thick and thin socks General outdoor clothing A small rucksack to
carry spare clothing, food and drink Dates
One week tours start in Britain on Saturday and end on Saturday. If you
are including air from the U.S.A., you would leave the U.S.A. on Friday, and
return on Saturday.
We will provide you with directions to your country house.

Loch Lomond
& the Trossachs The smell of pine woods. Clean
waters. Silence. Loch Lomond. A national park. Rob Roy. Relax. This is the
gateway to the Highlands. Scotlands first national park Stay
on the magnificent Gartmore House estate Great introduction to
Scotland
By Train: There are regular trains to Stirling, about 30mins from Glasgow or
50mins from Edinburgh. The 20 miles journey to Gartmore House can be made by
taxi (allow £27 per journey - less if shared).
Western Highlands - Glen Coe Sea lochs. Narrow
ridges. The highest mountains in Britain. Exhilarating. Wooded glens. Red deer.
Classic scrambling. Great food. A sense of history. Scotland doesnt get
any more dramatic than the West Highlands. Glen Coe lies at the heart of the
Highlands amid some of Britains finest and highest mountains and is
famous for its dark history of the massacre of the MacDonalds. Glen Coe has
dramatic glens, with jagged ridges and many post-glacial features to explore.
Close to our base and waiting to be conquered is Ben Nevis, Britain's highest
peak at 4,408 feet. If Ben Nevis is too challenging there are plenty of other
rewarding walks on our popular guided walking holidays, through the Nevis Gorge
to Steall Falls, visiting the Isle of Lismore or following the zigzags of the
Devils Staircase built in 1751 after the Jacobite risings. The best
mountain walking in Britain Lochside location with splendid mountain
views New indoor swimming pool and spa pool
