AGE: Ireland: The driver must be between the ages of 21–74 in Ireland (26–65 for BMW, Mercedes, or minibus; 30–70 for a car in group G, M, H, or J) and have a license without violations. OLDER DRIVERS: New! We can arrange a car rental in Ireland if you are over 75, but we need a lettter from your physician indicating that you fit to drive, and a note from your US car insurance company, indicating that you have not had any violations in the last 3 years, and are still insured. 4. AGE Britain: There is no upper age limit in Britain (except at Pembroke, and Carmarthen where the age limit is 75 years. Plymouth, Exeter, Newquay Taunton, Southport, Wigan, Bury St Edmunds and Ipswich the upper age limit is 70 years.) In Britain, the minimum rental age is 21 years for car groups: MCMN & ECMN, 23 years for car groups: CCMR, CDMR, IDMR, CCAR, IVMR, IWMR & CWMR, and 25 years for car groups: SDMR, SDAR, FCAR, FVAR & FWAR. Please note: The minimum age is 25 years for all cars at the Wigan branch (XWIC01/71).A young drivers surcharge applies as follows: 21 - 22 years=£14.77 + tax per day. 23 - 24 years=£10.43 + tax per day. 5. YOUNGER DRIVERS: Ireland: Extra insurance for drivers 21–23, $16–$18 per day. Young Driver Surcharge: All Drivers between the ages of 21-25 years inclusive will be charged a Young Drivers Charge of €11.90 AGE Minimum 21 - Maximum 74 for Groups A,B,C,D,E,F,N,P Minimum 26 - Maximum 65 for Groups I,O,L. HOURS: Rentals are based on 24-hour periods, i.e., a car picked up at 7 AM is paid for until 7 AM of the day you are scheduled to return it. Any additional hours are at your own expense. 7. ADDITIONAL DRIVERS A charge of €8.50 per day including VAT, maximum charge €64 per rental A Maximum of two additional drivers allowed. NEW! No charge for a 2nd driver in the UK. 8. PREPAID CAR INSURANCE: Third-party insurance is included. However, this means that in the event of an accident, the other car is covered. Yours is not. To cover this eventuality, we recommend that you purchase additional insurance (CDW). You may prepay your car insurance. Please see CDW rates in the car chart below. THE CDW RATES, IF PRE-PURCHASED BEFORE YOU LEAVE INCLUDE THEFT PROTECTION. This prepaid insurance will cover damage to the car you are driving, less a deductible of $1,300–$2,200. This represents a savings of 20–30% from the rates charged when you pick up your car. This does not include damage to tires or loss of keys during a rental. If you do not purchase insurance, you may be required to leave a credit card for the value of your car upon arrival. 9. DEDUCTIBLE: You may cover the insurance deductible by paying for Super CDW upon arrival at a cost of $75–$124. 10. INSURANCE ON ARRIVAL: This insurance is available for sale upon arrival. The following charges may apply: daily cost of $17 (small cars), $19 (automatics and large cars), $24 (minibuses and luxury cars). NO INSURANCEIf you do not purchase insurance, you may be required to leave a credit card for the value of your car upon arrival. Theft Protection, and Driver and Baggage is available. 11. GASOLINE is not included and costs approximately $4–$5 per gallon. Refuelling Policy: Car is supplied with full tank; return full or refuelling charges will apply. A Note about UK rentals: All rentals will be provided with a full tank of fuel. On rentals of 5 days or longer you will required to prepay for your fuel at the time of rental. This method eliminates the need for you to refuel the tank prior to returning.
12. THEFT PROTECTION:THIS IS INCLUDED IN THE CDW INCLUSIVE RATES, BUT IS OPTIONAL AND AT ADDED COST IF YOU DO NOT PURCHASE THE CDW OPTION BEFORE YOU LEAVE HOME. This insurance provides coverage for theft or attempted theft of the vehicle. The amount is €8.50 per day on all car groups. There is a non-waivable excess of €850 - €1,500 +VAT , which is the renters responsibility. Should you wish to decline Theft Protection, you will be held responsible for the full value of the car in the event of theft. 13. PERSONAL ACCIDENT INSURANCE This insurance is cover for the driver and passengers for personal injury or death. Does not cover luggage. The fee for this is €5 incl. VAT per day and is payable directly to AVIS.
15. Maps are included when you pick up your car. 16. Emergency roadside assistance is available 24 hours a day. 17. Car seats are sometimes available, but must be booked in advance, at a cost of about $56. We suggest that you bring your own. Car Seats for Children: The majority of people travelling in motor vehicles in Ireland are required to wear a seatbelt or child restraint at all times (other than, for example, a driver when reversing the vehicle). Certain people however, are exempt from these requirements. As a driver or passenger, it is in your interest to know the requirements and your obligations. It is worth noting that the law has to allow for exceptional circumstances and that it is not totally comprehensive. There may be situations where wearing is not mandatory but is, nonetheless, advisable - for example when on a coach bus. Roof racks and tow bars are not available. 18. GPS GPS Daily Charge of €15 per day including VAT. Weekly Charge of €75 including VAT. Paid in Ireland. 19. - AND MOST IMPORTANT - Driving is on the left-hand side of the road. Small country lanes are very often narrow, with ancient thick walls of rock defining either side. Don't, however, shrink from driving such roads, as they can be avenues to beautiful scenery and fun to drive; but when doing so you must be almost constantly prepared to bring your vehicle to a crawl and negotiate some sort of compromise with the oncoming traffic, mostly cows and sheep.

There may be additional charges for one way rentals and rentals at Dublin downtown, Donegal, Knock, Galway, Killarney and Sligo, Dunlaoghaire and Rosslare docks ($100–$160) and drop-offs in Northern Ireland, depending upon car rental company chosen. Northern Ireland: Free pick-up and dropoff at Belfast Airport. There are additional charges for Belfast and Larne ferryports, and for drop-offs in the Republic of Ireland. These charges are payable in Ireland, and cannot be collected in advance. Extra charges at other locations.

Where the location is served by a meet and greet service (i.e., Inverness, City Airport, Leeds), an added charge of $10 and up applies. Ireland/Britain combinations: We must book the ferry for you. Extra insurance may apply. The car must be returned to the country in which it was picked up, or serious drop charges apply. Cross Border Policy Vehicles may be taken abroad at a charge of GBP 18.00 per day plus VAT (This charge does not apply to vehicles going to the Republic of Ireland.). Renters will additionally be required to purchase breakdown cover at a cost of GBP 50.00 including VAT. Written permission is required to take any vehicle outside of the UK.
