Castles in Northern Ireland Ballygally Castle Hotel Antrim Ideally located on the scenic Antrim coast, close to Larne, Ballygally Castle Hotel in Northern Ireland faces the soft, sandy beaches of Ballygally Bay. The Castle dates back to 1625 and is unique in that it is the only 17th Century building still used as a residence in Northern Ireland today. The hotel is reputedly haunted by a friendly ghost and brave guests can visit the 'ghost room' in one of the towers to see for themselves. Blue Hotel - AA/RAC 4**** hotel is one of Killarney's gems. Family owned and run, this deluxe hotel offers all the elegance and charm of a country house. Dating back to 1906, the hotel has been tastefully restored with beautiful furniture and open fires. Checker's Restaurant is truly a unique dining experience. The leisure club offers the ultimate in relaxation with its own treatment rooms. Red Hotel- Bushmills Inn, Co. Antrim In the village that is home to the world's oldest distillery, between the Giant's Causeway and Royal Portrush Golf Club, this "living museum of Ulster Hospitality" has been outstandingly successful in recreating its origins as an old Coaching Inn and Mill House. Intriguing fireplaces, oil lamps, nooks, crannies and even a secret room set the tone. In the bar, still lit by gas light, try a glass of Bushmills malt from the hotel's private cask or relax in a rocking chair in front of the gentle glow of a turf fire in the 'old kitchen'. The award winning restaurant, blending 'new Irish' cuisine with finest produce, overlooks the garden courtyard and contrasts with intimate 'snugs' with white washed walls and warm mellow brick with well aged timbers. Take the grand staircase to the Gallery, the gateway to the bedrooms, where the magnificence of the Causeway Coast is captured in oils and water colors. The spacious Mill House bedrooms, on the banks of the River Bush, have their own sitting area and small dressing room while the smaller Coaching Inn rooms, mostly overlook the village. Red

LOUGH ERNE RESORT Ellen's review April 2010 Lough Erne is fabulous, and a
gateway to the scenic northwest. It is perfect for exploring Donegal, Omagh,
Fermanagh, Sligo and Leitrim. The luxury Hotel Spa and Championship Golf Course
is just perfect for arelaxing stay in Ireland.Entry is from the Belleek Road (where you will find the pottery factory just a few minutes away). You enter through the Hiume Golf Course, past luxurious private homes and across a meandering bridge to the resort. At night the winding bridge is lit up. The Nick Faldo designed course is the centerpiece of the resort, with its most famous hole, the Emerald Isle, jutting out into the lake. Buggies are available. Ruari (Rory McIlroy) is the professional golfer associated with the course, but resident pro Lynn McCool was happy to show us around. The half way house will shortly become a seafood restaurant. The pro shop has a great assortment of quality goods. The golf academy was in the building stages while we were there. Round
self catering units, complete with kitchen and 2 or 3 bedrooms are
reminiscent of Bavaria, and are perfect for a family or a group of golfers.
There is plenty of storage, large bedrooms, bathrooms, and a central living
room and kitchen in each. But it is truly Irish style otherwise. The friendly
and helpful staff are full of Irish wit and chat. The view from the bar,
restaurant and lobby is magnificent, overlooking the golf course and Lough
Erne. The Thai Spa, easily reached from the guest rooms, was relaxing a
beautifull. I only sampled the pool and jacuizi. But they were uncrowded. The hotel bedrooms are large and well designed and appointed. We had a view of the lake. On the clear sunny days we were there, life could be no finer. Dinner in the Noel McMeel dining room was top notch, the wine excellent, and the after dinner relaxation in the bar were the best. It took about 2 ½ hours to drive to Dublin from Lough Erne, traveling through Cavan, Navan and Meath. Lough Rynn
CastleOne of Irelands most luxurious Castle Hotels, the ancestral home of the Clements family and the legendary Lord Leitrim. The entire estate comprises over 300 acres of an Ireland that is idyllic, rich in history and charmed with natural beauty. Our commitment at Lough Rynn Castle is to provide the highest level of comfort and service. You will enjoy old world elegance with modern day comforts. One step inside Lough Rynn Castle and you are at home. With our warm and friendly atmosphere we will see to your every need, everything has been designed with your desires in mind. Ellen's review April 2010: Lough Rynn is in County Leitrim, or lovely Leitrim as it is known
here. It is a perfect past to explore the northwest part of Ireland (Leitrim,
Sligo, Donegal). It is a bit hard to find, at least with the approach we chose
to make. The drive passed the lake, shimmering in the setting sun. The manor
house is a light cream color stone, the former home of Lord Leitrim. It
definitely has the feel of an exclusive country manor, complete with a cast
iron dog greeting you at the entrance. The paneled entrance, the small bar and
the lounge beyond, period furniture and oil paintings all add to the effect. I
climbed up the stairs to a well-decorated deluxe room , with a sumptuous bed,
desk, and large armoire. At 9PM, it was too late to dine in the restaurant, so we had bar food - sandwiches and French fries. It was very filling. Breakfast had a buffet, and served food as well. A walk around the grounds was beautiful in the sunshine. A walled
garden by the lough, (lake), birds chirping and fresh country air - you could
not ask for a prettier setting. There was to be a wedding at the castle that
afternoon, so we were delight to see the unique decorations in this farming
area. There are two churches close to the castle, in town - Catholic and
Protestant. Most of the guests that weekend at the castle were wedding guests,
too, so there was a certain buzz of excitement about the place. Too bad we had
to depart before we could see the bride! Kilronan
CastleRomantic Kilronan Castle in Co.Roscommon There ia a long, winding drive entrance to the estate. You drive along the road circling the blue lake. On a rise above is the castle, a grey stone fantasy castle which contrasts with the green estate that surrounds it. As you enter, the stained glass windows which medieval characters adds character to the place. Period furniture, oak paneled walls, and a 2 storey high lobby with crystal chandelier complete the picture. Straight ahead is main dining room, where you are greeted by name. Service was perfectly timed, and the food excellent. I met the chef the next day. He hails from Sri Lanka, so there is a bit of an Asian inspiration to the locally sourced food. ![]() There is a lift to the tower rooms. I had a junior suite overlooking the lake. It was nicely decorated, with a tower sitting area with a table and two chairs under the arched windows. The bath had a tub and a separate shower. Everything was marble. There was a wedding going on here, but the banquet suite is quietly tucked away, and you did not hear any noise from the party. The Spa is beautiful,. AN instant sense of calm overcomes you as you enter the serenely lit space. Many treatment rooms and a beautiful pool. One of Irelands most luxurious Castle
