and transfer to your hotel. At 2:00 pm a local tour guide will show you around
Dublin. Tour Dublin Castle to learn about Irelands history and visit the
Guinness Storehouse to sample a draft pint. Enjoy a welcome get-together drink.
Day 3 - Tue: Jerpoint Abbey & Medieval Kilkenny Drive
south to visit Jerpoint Abbey to see romantic ruins before heading to Kilkenny
for a look around the medieval city. Kilkenny is the setting for one of
Ireland's finest cathedrals. The town itself is closely associated with
witchcraft. Dame Alice Kyteler was tried for witchcraft here in the 14th
century. Drive to your country home, meet your host family and sit down to a
home-style dinner. (B, D) Day 4 - Wed: Waterford Crystal & Irish Evening Your first stop is the Waterford glass factory where you see crystal in the making. Waterford crystal reached its peak in the 16th century, ceased in 1851, and begun anew in 1947. This resulted in two kinds of crystal, antique and modern. Tour the Waterford Crystal Factory and watch skilled craftspeople create elegant crystal. Travel into the center of Waterford for a short walk around the ancient streets with a local guide. In the evening head to nearby Brod Tullaroan, for a fun country-style evening. (B, D) Day 5 - Thu: Titanic Tour & Blarney Stop for photos at
the Rock of Cashel and continue to Cobh, the last port of call for the
Titanic. Take a walking tour to discover places associated with the
famous liner. Visit the Blarney Woollen Mills and, if you wish, you may climb
Blarney Castle. At Blarney you have the chance to kiss the famed stone, said to
bequeath the gift of eloquence. Drive to Killarney and check into your hotel.
(B, D) Day 6 - Fri: Ring of Kerry & Muckross House From Killarney you can travel on the Ring of Kerry & see some of Ireland's most spectacular scenery. Nestled amidst deep, lake filled valleys with astounding sights such as the famous Ladies' View (Named after Queen Victoria's Ladies' in Waiting) and the MacGillicuddy Reeks - Ireland's largest mountain range. View the Essence of Kerry, an audio visual about the Ring of Kerry. As you drive enjoy panoramic vistas. Visit Muckross House to see valuable furnishings and learn about its history. (B, D) Day 7 Sat: Cliffs of Moher & Galway Take a ferry ride across the River Shannon to visit the Cliffs of Moher, majestic walls of rock which extend five miles along the coast. Drive through part of the Burren into Galway and take a look around the city center before checking into your charming hotel. Galway is one of the most interesting of Irish towns with its narrow winding lanes, antique shops and quaint pubs. Galway dates from 1124, and for centuries, Galway traded exclusively with Spain, whose influence on the community is very strong. After Galway burned to the ground in 1473, the rebuilding included Spanish architecture. Galway is the main city in the West, known as the City of the Tribes as it was ruled for many centuries by a number of patrician families. It is said that Christopher Columbus stopped here en route to the New World. (B, D) Day 8 - Sun: Aran Islands & Dun Aengus The
Aran Islands are located 30 miles off the coast of Galway and have a population
of only 1500. Here you can immerse yourself in the rich Celtic culture among
the people who speak Gaelic as their first language. Take a short ferry ride
from Rossaveal to Inis Mor, the largest of the three Aran Islands where the
Irish language is still spoken. Visit the prehistoric Dun Aengus Fort perched
on sheer cliffs. In the Aran Heritage Centre learn about local customs before
returning to Galway. (B, D) Day 9 - Mon: Clonmacnoise & Abbey Tavern Visit Clonmacnoise to see elaborately-carved crosses, round towers and ruined churches. Continue to Dublin and check into your hotel. This evening drive to the popular Abbey Tavern for a hearty dinner and traditional Irish songs. Travel to Howth, nine miles from Dublin. Enjoy a traditional evening of dinner and ballads at the Abbey Tavern, built in the 15th century for some local monks as a seminary. The scene is beautifully set for dining - stone walls, fire places and gas lights. A typical five course Irish dinner with corned beef and cabbage, boiled potatoes and Irish coffee is served.
