& ANCIENT STONES Listowel's long history dates back to 1303 where it first
appears in the Plea Roll. Described as the Literary Capital of Ireland',
the area has produced some of Ireland's most distinguished writers including
John B. Keane. Continue on a relaxed trip to the Dingle Peninsula. It has been
inhabited for almost 6,000 years. Here you will find the largest collections of
archaeological remains in the world of clocháns or beehive huts, stones
with the unique ancient ogham writing, and ring forts. Ballyseede Castle was
the chief garrison of the legendary Fitzgerald, Earls of Desmond. (B,D) Day 4 BLARNEY/KINSALE - SEAPORTS AND SHIPS Blarney Castle is most famous for its stone, which has the traditional power of conferring eloquence on all who kiss it. Travel to the charming seaport of Kinsale. For centuries, the town has been a haven from the sea for travelers and traders alike. Perryville House combines the essence of a Victorian manor, featuring delicate traceries of wrought ironwork on the facade and a delightful interior, offering comfort in a charming atmosphere. Buffet breakfast, morning coffee and afternoon tea are served for guests and the discerning management will be delighted to reserve lunch or dinner for you at any of the gourmet restaurants that abound in Kinsale. STATELY HOMES - GOLF OPTION Explore the lovely coastal area of West Cork,
dotted with quaint villages, renowned these days for fine restaurants, gourmet
speciality dairy products and distinctive local crafts. Visit Bantry House and
Gardens, one of the finest stately homes in Ireland. The house has a collection
of tapestries, furniture and art treasures which were mainly collected by the
Earl during his travels through Europe in the 1800's. The Gardens are home to
sub tropical plants and shrubs - reflecting the best in European design and
style. Features with the 45 acre grounds are the Hundred Steps, the Italian
Garden and the largest Wisteria circle in Ireland. Visit basketmakers and the
cheesemaker in West Cork. Return to the heritage town of Kinsale, known as
Ireland's Gourmet Capital. For the golf enthusiast the Old Head Golf Links is
only a 10 minute drive from Perryville House. (B) Day 6 COBH/WATERFORD CRYSTAL & TREASURES Cobh is situated in one of the world's finest natural harbors. Over 2.5 million emigrated from Cobh, making it the single most important port of emigration in the country. Cobh was the last port of call for the ill-fated Titanic. Lismore is the Irish home of the Duke of Devonshire, and its gardens are set in seven acres within the 17th century outer defensive walls. The gardens are believed to be the oldest in Ireland retaining much of their original Jacobean form.Visit the great port city of Waterford, made famous by Waterford Crystal at whose Visitor Centre the blowers, cutters and engravers are happy to display their unique skills. Visit Waterford Museum of Treasures and Reginald's Tower which houses many interesting artifacts dating back many centuries. Stay at Faithlegg Manor House. (B,D) Day 7 WICKLOW - GARDENS Kilmokea Gardens are situated on the joint estuary of the Nore and the Barrow. Around the house are the formal walled gardens and set into the stone wall a heavy wooden door leads you into the magical world of of the lower garden which hosts a wide selection of rare and tender trees and shrubs. Within the walled garden its rooms lead from one design feature to the next. The Italian loggia and pool with its fine stone pillars looks across to the quarter garden brimming with iris and roses. The acid soil of the woodland garden provides the perfect environment for rhododendrons, tender camellias, eucryphias and magnolias. Wickloe is known as the 'Garden of Ireland'. The hills and valleys yield quaint villages, classical mansions and beautiful gardens. At Glendalough, you see St. Kevin's round tower and explore the peaceful valley.
