Northern Experience 8 Day First Class Escorted Tour - small group tour to Northern Ireland

GUARANTEED SMALL GROUP - THIS TOUR IS LIMITED TO 10 PERSONS

Travel on a private guided tour along the shores of the tour of the northern half of Ireland - coasts and green, gentle slopes. Part of the fun of travel is finding new and unique areas to visit, and there are many different alternatives here. See remarkable natural formations, impressive round towers on Devenish Island, and authentic Irish heritage sites. It’s a journey not to be hurried. Every twist and turn in the road will reveal new sights, well placed stopping points, offering uninterrupted views to Scotland on one side and tall limestone cliffs dissected by beautiful glens on the other.

Sunday - DEPART FROM HOME
Your vacation begins the moment you board your flight. Destination: NORTHERN IRELAND.

Monday - DUBLIN/BELFAST
Belfast will surprise you! Belfast is a Victorian success story. Prosperity was built on trade - linen and shipbuilding. The ill-fated Titanic whose construction here in 1911 is still a source of civic pride and jokes. "Well mate," goes the wry joke, "She was all right when she left here." This cosmopolitan city still manages to keep its charm. Visit the authentic 19th century Crown Liquor Saloon, a restored national landmark, and the colorful Botanic Gardens. (D)

Ireland’s famous patron saint didn’t actually come from Ireland. Saint Patrick was taken prisoner from his family home in Britain by Irish raiders and was brought to Ireland to work as a shepherd. After Patrick escaped back to Britain, he had a vision from God telling him to return to Ireland as a missionary. Now credited with introducing Christianity to Ireland, relics of St Patrick’s time here can be seen all over Ireland. One of the best known is Croagh Patrick in County Mayo, where Patrick fasted for 40 days in 441AD. Today, pilgrims climb the mountain every year on the last Sunday in July. Saint Patrick’s remains are believed to be buried in the grounds of Downpatrick Cathedral, County Down.

Glens of Antrim- Giant's Causeway - PortrushTuesday - GLENS OF ANTRIM/GIANT'S CAUSEWAY/PORTRUSH
The Antrim coast is the most scenic in all Ireland, nine wooded river valleys running down to the shore. It’s a coastline sprinkled with historic castles, churches and forts. Many are now just ruins but each holds the memories of a mysterious and heroic past. A past populated by seafaring Vikings and swashbuckling tales of the ancient Irish clans. See the Carrick-a-Rede Rope Bridge, offering some heart-stopping views of the surf below. Visit the strange natural phenomenon at Giant's Causeway, before a welcome drink at the Bushmill's Distillery. Learn the secrets of the special water from St Columb’s Rill, as you tour Old Bushmills, the world’s oldest licensed whiskey distillery. King James 1 granted the original license to distil "Uisce Beatha" in April 1608 and the crafts and skills employed there have changed little in 400 years.(B,D)

{short description of image}Wednesday - DERRY/OMAGH/ ENNISKILLEN
Entering the city of Londonderry, you will view the most notable and historic feature of the city – the Walls, which have been kept in a splendid state of preservation and are among the best-preserved city fortifications in the Western World. They rise to a height of 26 feet and in places are 30 feet wide. Almost a mile in circumference, they form a cobbled walkway around the Inner city and provide a unique promenade as you gaze out over the ever changing skyline. Your guide will lead you on a walk (approximately 45 minutes) along the broad expanse of the walls Almost a mile in circumference, they form a cobbled walkway around the Inner city and provide a unique promenade as you gaze out over the ever changing skyline. Visit the Victorian 1890 Guildhall, with it's impressive stained glass windows. Derry was where Amelia Earhart touched down, after her historic solo flight across the Atlantic. Pass small farm villages within sight of the bare Sperrin Mountains as you travel to the Ulster American Folk Park. Here, you enter a ship bound for America and emerge in a recreated Irish village of long ago. (B,D)

The oldest legal distillery in the world is at Bushmills, having been granted its licence in 1608 by King James I is still distilling and giving guided tours.
Thursday - BELLEEK/DEVENISH EXCURSION
Visit the Belleek Pottery, producers of fine porcelain festooned with shamrocks or delicate trellis-like plates. Magnificent lake views abound on the ancient monastic site of Devenish Island, Ireland's best example of a round tower. Return to Enniskillen, with its old world style pubs and Georgian brick buildings. (B,D)

Friday - ARMAGH/NAVAN/DOWN
Discover the ancient ecclesiastical city of Armagh. At the Ulster Folk and Transport Museum, relive the history of transportation, including John DeLorean's car, and a Titanic exhibit. (B,D)

{short description of image}Saturday - ARDS PENINSULA/DOWNPATRICK/NEWCASTLE
Travel the Ards Peninsula. Downpatrick Cathedral, burial site of St. Patrick is next. Ireland’s Patron Saint’s story in his own words and in the context of the period, uses state of the art interpretation that gives visitors a real understanding of the arrival and establishment of Christianity in Ireland. One surprise for visitors is that during a multi-media presentation, Dr. Ian Paisley’s voice can be heard. Dr Paisley extols the virtues of St. Patrick, encouraging the audience to visit those sites associated with the patron saint. Our destination is Newcastle, nestled under the Mourne mountains. The mountains of Mourne really do "sweep down to the sea" as Percy French wrote. (B,D)

Famous People from the NorthTo name but a few we have on the big screen a big presence led by Liam Neeson, Kenneth Branagh, Stephen Rea, Roma Downey, Formula One driver Eddie Irvine, motorcycling hero Joey Dunlop. Northern Ireland has produced a wealth of writers, among others Brian Friel and C S Lewis, Christian intellectual and writer of the hugely popular children's stories was born in East Belfast. Our writing talent is also on display through Nobel Laureate Seamus Heaney, born on a farm near Bellaghy, and Oscar Wilde and Samuel Beckett who both went to school in Enniskillen. We have an abundance of musical talent and have produced such greats as Van Morrison, James Galway, Phil Coulter.
