The best of Scotland travel combined with the best of Ireland travel. This is just one of our popular ways to visit Scotland and Ireland. We have many other Ireland Scotland travel options, including self-drive programs. Here, there are no strangers - only friends you have not yet met. The lilting self-doubting accents and wit of the people will enchant you.
A few departures on this tour have a senior discount available. Please ask for details. Cannot be combined with other discounts or offers

Day 1: Depart U.S. for ScotlandDepart U.S. on your overnight flight to Glasgow, either traveling direct or via London.

Scotland TourDay 2: Glasgow City Tour Arrive in Glasgow Airport where your tour director or representative will greet you. Complimentary group transfers depart Glasgow Airport at 8:00 am, 10:00 am or 12:00 noon. Passengers arriving later will transfer to the hotel at their own expense. Your hotel is centrally located near Sauchiehall Street, Glasgow's main pedestrianized shopping thoroughfare. At 3:00 pm take a coach tour to see the main attractions of Glasgow including red sandstone Victorian buildings, delightful parks, Glasgow Cathedral and the River Clyde, once famous for shipbuilding. Visit extensive collections in Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum, originally opened in 1901 and recently refurbished. Chat with your tour director and fellow travelers over a welcome drink before dinner. (D)

GlasgowDay 3: Loch Lomond Cruise & Loch NessDepart Glasgow and drive north along the banks of Loch Lomond with views of Ben Lomond and other Highland peaks. At Tarbet embark on a short cruise to appreciate the beauty and peacefulness of this famous loch and admire panoramic views. Then journey across mysterious Rannoch Moor and through Glen Coe, a spectacular glen made famous by the Campbells' massacre of the Clan Macdonald in 1692. Travel beside Loch Ness and pause for photos at the huge ruins of Urquhart Castle before continuing to your hotel in the centre of Inverness. (B, D)

Day 4: Sheepdog Trials & Culloden Battlefield Enjoy a leisurely day of discovery in the lovely countryside and majestic Highland scenery. Just south of Aviemore visit Leault Farm to see a team of dogs herd sheep and ducks through various obstacles. Learn how each dog responds to individual whistles and meet collie puppies, bottle-feed orphan lambs and see sheep-shearing. Drive to Culloden Moor to tour the Visitor Centre. Walk around the battlefield where, on 16th April 1746, British Government forces defeated the army of Prince Charles Edward Stuart in just one hour and ended hopes of restoring the Jacobite Stuarts to the British throne. Return to Inverness mid-afternoon to relax or browse around on your own before dinner. After dinner enjoy a special ceilidh, traditional Scottish entertainment with singers, piper and Highland dancers in your hotel. (B, D)

Scottish teaDay 5: Glenfiddich Whisky Distillery & Shortbread Drive along the coastal route through Nairn and Elgin and head south into Speyside, the region where many of Scotland's famous distilleries are located. Stop in Craigellachie to visit the family-owned Speyside Cooperage which produces fine casks from American Oak using traditional methods and tools. Although shipped around the world, most of the casks provide a vital component in Scotland's whisky making process. A few miles further on tour the Glenfiddich Distillery and enjoy a “wee dram.” In Huntly visit Dean's to watch staff make Scottish shortbread and learn about its history. Continue to Blairs on the outskirts of Aberdeen to your elegant 19th century mansion in time for dinner. (B, D)

St. AndrewsDay 6: Crathes Castle & Royal Deeside Visit Crathes Castle, a fairytale Renaissance castle completed in 1594 with a wealth of fine furnishings. Take time to walk through the wonderful gardens. Drive along the charming River Dee Valley, called “Royal Deeside” as it was first favoured by Queen Victoria. Stop in Braemar, where Highland games are held each summer and the Royal Family attend. Return through Royal Deeside passing Balmoral Castle where the Royal Family vacations during August and visit their lovely Crathie Church. Near the village of Banchory stop at the Falls of Feugh, a charming tea shop, which is popular with people in the area. Sample afternoon tea with delicious freshly-baked scones and enjoy a talk by a local ghillie. Return to Blairs for some free time to relax before dinner at your hotel. (B, D)

Royal Highland ShowDay 7: St. Andrews & Coast of Fife Travel south through the lush countryside of Aberdeenshire and cross the modern Tay Bridge to St. Andrews, the "Home of Golf." See the famous Royal and Ancient Clubhouse and the Old Course and enjoy free time to visit the British Golf Museum or browse through the medieval town with its cathedral and castle. Take the coastal route south through the picturesque “East Neuk” fishing villages. While fishing is no longer the main industry, the towns retain an old-world charm. Stop for a walk around the cobbled streets of Anstruther, a rabbit-warren of alleyways and wynds. Continue south into Edinburgh and check in to your hotel in the New Town. In the evening walk across the Grassmarket to the cosy Beehive Inn for an informal pub dinner and then join a local guide for a fun walking tour to discover the haunts of Edinburgh's many colourful characters. (B, D)
Another hint for you is to learn some differences in Irish English and American English: Articulated lorry--semi truck. And they make the same wide turns in Ireland that they do in the US, just in the opposite direction.

Cape ClearDay 8: Edinburgh Castle & City Tour Edinburgh Castle & City Tour This morning discover Edinburgh on a sightseeing tour. Drive along Princes Street, the main shopping thoroughfare. Compare and contrast the wide streets and elegant mansions of the Georgian 200-year-old "New Town" with the narrow lanes and medieval townhouses along the Royal Mile, the oldest part of the city, and together forming a World Heritage Site. Learn about many prominent Scottish inventors, doctors and writers. Finish your tour at the imposing Edinburgh Castle where you can see historic buildings and enjoy a splendid view of Edinburgh. In the afternoon take an open-top hop-on hop-off independent bus tour to see more of this great city. On August 01 to August 22 departures enjoy the Military Tattoo at Edinburgh Castle. (B)

Dublin doorDay 9: Edinburgh to Dublin
Depart Edinburgh early for the ferry from Cainryan to Larne. Drive south to Dublin, and checki into your hotel. (B)

Day 10 Dublin Tour & Merry Ploughboy Pub At 2:00 pm join a local guide who will show you around central Dublin. Drive through the main streets to see historic buildings such as Trinity College, where the Book of Kells is housed; the evocative figures of the Famine Memorial; and rows of Georgian houses with gaily-colored doorways. Stop at Dublin Castle to take a guided tour through the elegant State Apartments, which are filled with elaborate Waterford Crystal chandeliers and portraits of prominent Irish leaders. Return to your hotel for a get-together with your tour group and a welcome drink. In the evening drive to the Merry Ploughboy Pub for a great dinner of Irish specialties, which is followed by a show of traditional Irish songs and intricate step-dancing. (D)

Day 11: Blarney Castle & Killarney Depart Dublin and travel through the center of Ireland, which has many mixed farms. Stop to view the stately church ruins atop the Rock of Cashel, which rises high above the surrounding plain. Continue your drive south and, just a few miles outside Cork, visit Blarney Castle to kiss the famous “Stone of Eloquence.” Also visit the Blarney Woollen Mills where you can find quality Irish-made goods of all types, conveniently displayed under one roof. Drive through Macroom, built around a fine castle, and into County Kerry where the scenery becomes more mountainous. Arrive in Killarney, picturesquely set beside lakes with Ireland's highest mountains, the Macgillycuddy's Reeks, forming a backdrop. Check in to your hotel and relax before dinner. Afterwards you may like to take a stroll through the compact town center and explore one of Killarney's famous singing pubs. (B, D)

Day 12: Ring of Kerry & Skellig Experience Today embark on Ireland's most popular scenic drive of 100 miles - the Ring of Kerry. This winding route reveals breathtaking sights of the Macgillycuddy's Reeks as well as coastal views of beaches and cliffs. As you travel along, there will be plenty of stops for photos at the best vantage points. Stop at Kells to meet a local farmer, Brendan Ferris, for a taste of farm life with a sheepdog demonstration of herding flocks and see different breeds of sheep. Drive through the village of Cahirciveen and cross to Valencia Island by bridge. Visit the Skellig Experience to learn about the nearby rocky islands where early Christian monks lived in austere conditions and today it is a thriving bird sanctuary. Stop to walk around Sneem, where brightly-painted houses are grouped around a central green. Stop at Moll's Gap for a view over the Three Lakes of Killarney with the town in the distance. Visit the charming Muckross Gardens, set on the shores of Muckross Lake and with many mature trees and plants. Return to Killarney and enjoy a fine dinner in your hotel once again. (B, D)

Bunratty BanquetDay 13: Cliffs of Moher & Bunratty Castle Leave Killarney and drive north to Tarbert for a 20-minute ferry ride across the wide River Shannon Estuary. Your tour continues along the Clare coast to the Cliffs of Moher, a spectacular wall of limestone that reaches to almost 700 feet above the Atlantic Ocean. Drive past Lahinch golf links, one of Ireland's most famous, and through the marketing town of Ennis to Bunratty. Check in to Bunratty Castle Hotel, which is located very close to Bunratty Castle and Folk Park. In the evening head to Bunratty Castle for a memorable experience in a wonderful setting with good food and entertainment. Take your place in the Great Hall for a medieval-style feast of excellent dishes and plenty of wine. During and after the meal the lords and ladies will serenade you with song and harp music, evocative of the Middle Ages. (B, D)
