Catholic Travel Programs in Ireland

At Lynott Tours, we have created a Catholic tour of Ireland, a faith-based travel program where you will travel with other Catholics. You do not have to have your own group to travel with us. Gather with other like-minded travelers and discover the sources of inspiration in Ireland. The Marian Shrine at Knock, St. Brigid, St. Patrick are our focus, but there is plenty of time for fun and history.

9 Day Catholic Tour of Ireland - St Patrick, St. Brigid and Knock-
Early Christianity to Modern Times - St. Patrick and St. Brigid. Priests may offer Mass as desired in Ireland. Other itineraries are available.

Day 1 DEPART U.S.A. You experience Irish hospitality the moment you board your flight. DESTINATION: IRELAND, one of the most peaceful places on earth. Dinner and breakfast served aloft.

Celtic CrossDay 2 DUBLIN - BOYNE VALLEY - DOWNPATRICK When the night sky around you begins to lighten, peer down through the clouds from the windows of your transatlantic jet. IRELAND! A soft haze mutes the colors of Ireland. The Emerald Isle is a land of great beauty and colorful history - an enchanting country of grand cathedrals, quiet villages, monasteries, mountain, castles and crystal. The Kells High Crosses are decorated with biblical scenes and are regarded as the country's most important crosses. The Market Cross was probably at the entrance to the ancient monastery. The other four crosses are situated in the grounds of Saint Columba's Church. The ninth century South Cross is the oldest, the twelfth century East Cross is also referred to as 'the unfinished' because its decoration is incomplete. The North Cross has been reduced to its base and the 10th century West Cross is the most decorated of the five. A tremendous highlight is in store as you visit the St. Patrick centre in Downpatrick, which tells the story of Ireland’s patron saint. the relics of St. Brigid were taken to Downpatrick, where they were interred in the tomb of St. Patrick and St. Columba. Overnight at Trim Castle. The film Braveheart was filmed here. Welcome dinner. (D)

Illuminated manuscriptDay 3 DUBLIN
Experience Dublin this morning with a sightseeing tour including St. Patrick's Cathedral (Protestant). Visit Trinity College, famous for the 1,200-year-old Book of Kells. Day free for exploring on your own. Dublin offers an abundance of Galleries, Museums, Churches and Cathedrals to explore at leisure. (B)

The scenic mountain drive takes you to Glendalough, the beautiful valley to visit St. Kevin’s, the ancient 6th century seat of learning with its Round Tower, Cathedral and Seven Churches. St. Kevin came here in search of the quietude and closeness of the earth. He established a monastery here. The Round Tower is over a thousand years old, more than 100 feet high and 50 feet in circumference. In this majestic part of the Wicklow Valley, you can feel the inner peace that attracted St. Kevin centuries ago. The Vale of Avoca nurtures poetic inspiration, like that of Thomas Moore, with its "valley so sweet". Return to Dublin. (B)

Day 5 ST. BRIGID/ROCK OF CASHEL/CORK In Celtic Ireland we have two Brigids: the ancient Goddess Brigid and the Christian Saint Brigid so at Kildare there are two Brigid's wells. in the town of Kildare ("the church of the oak"). Here, priestesses of Brigid kept a sacred flame burning until the sixteenth century and where, even today, Catholic nuns keep a perpetual fire lit in honor of Brigid. This well is reputedly a 'healing well', one of many in Ireland. The well is still a popular place of pilgrimage where healing liturgies are often held. St Brigid's well is situated where the location of her double monastery once stood in Kildare Town, close to the Black Abbey. Next is the Rock of Cashel, and then, Blarney Castle. (B)

Day 6 KNOCK SHRINE Our Lady's Shrine Knock, is one of the great Marian shrines of the world; an oasis of peace, tranquility and deep spirituality. Knock is the scene of the apparition of the Blessed Virgin Mary, St. Joseph and St. John on 21 August 1879, witnessed by fifteen local people. Today it attracts pilgrims from around the world. It was one of Mother Teresa’s favorite shrines. Perhaps this evening you'll join the evening rosary processions. (B)

Day 7 KNOCK SHRINE This morning we celebrate mass at the magnificent new Basilica of Knock, located next to the original church where Our Blessed Mother appeared , and where Pope John Paul visited in 1979. In the afternoon visit Ballintubber Abbey, dedicated to St. Patrick. This 13th century abbey is unique, not only is it the only church in Ireland still in use which was founded by an Irish King, but it is also the one Irish church where for more than 780 years Mass has been offered without a break. (B)

Kylemore AbbeyDay 8 CROAGH PATRICK/KNOCK/GALWAY This morning visit Kylemore Abbey, the massive castle run by the Benedictine nuns. The famous pilgrimage site of Croagh Patrick is next, where St. Patrick spent 40 days of Lent in 441 AD “fasting and praying”. A wonderful experience and challenge on a fine day with a spectacular view of County Mayo. Continue to Galway. Farewell dinner. (B,D)
